Call for Solidarity: Joint Statement Issued by Ukrainian and supporting organization in Ireland

March 7, 2025 – Dublin, Ireland

To the People of Ireland, the Irish Government, Political Leaders, and Civil Society:

Ireland knows what it means to fight for freedom. It knows what it means to stand against the odds, to endure hardship, and to refuse to surrender its identity. Today, Ukraine fights that same battle — not just for itself, but for the principles that unite free nations.

From the first days of the war, Ireland has shown extraordinary solidarity with Ukraine. Over 100,000 Ukrainians fleeing terror have found refuge in the safe harbors of Irish communities. This solidarity has mattered – it has saved lives, given hope, and strengthened international resolve. But solidarity is not just an act of the past; it must be a commitment for the future.

As Ukrainian, Irish, and international organisations engaged in humanitarian relief, advocacy, and cooperation, we recognise the profound impact of this support. From opening homes and schools to displaced families, to advocating for justice in global halls of power, Ireland has stood as a beacon. This has not only strengthened Ukraine’s resilience – it has reinforced Ireland’s position as a champion of freedom in Europe.

Yet challenges remain, and the need for solidarity is greater than ever. Thousands still flee daily from Russian bombs. Survivors of occupied territories need healing. Liberated cities cry out for rebuilding. The support shown must not fade. It must continue at every level across government, business, and civil society.

This is not just about Ukraine it is about the kind of world we shape for future generations. The decisions made today will define not only Ukraine’s future but also the future of global stability and Ireland’s place within it. The principles that have shaped Ireland’s response – respect for sovereignty, international justice, and solidarity – must remain at the heart of its engagement.

At this pivotal moment, turning away is not an option. The alliances forged during this crisis, the aid extended, and the leadership demonstrated have all contributed to a safer, more just, and more stable world. Now is the time to reinforce this dedication, safeguard the progress made, and keep solidarity unshaken.

We know some may question the extent of support for Ukraine, especially amid domestic challenges. But history has already given its answer: when we stand for others, we strengthen our own future. A world where aggression goes unchallenged is a world less safe for all. Today, the question is not whether Ukraine needs support – it is whether we continue willing to stand for what is right.

Let us not turn away. Let us stand firm, stay engaged, and keep solidarity alive. Solidarity in action is not just a choice – it’s Ireland’s legacy

Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine – We live in each other’s shelter.
